Term 4 Chemical Sciences Year 1 students will be learning about the changes that happen all around us. They will be making predictions about how they can change everyday materials.
Year 2 students will be discovering the properties of different materials. They will also investigate how different materials act when mixed together and attempt to separate some of the mixtures.
Year 3 students learn about melting and freezing and how a change of state between solid and liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat. They will be investigating how liquids and solids respond to changes in temperature.
Year 4 students will be describing a range of common materials, their properties and how these properties of materials are considered when using objects. They will use their investigative skills to discover which material is the best insulator.
Year 5 students discover matter is anything that takes up space and has weight. It is as small as a cell or as large as the whole galaxy. Matter can also be found in different states and the Year 5 students follow Science Inquiry Skills when investigating properties of solids, liquids and gases.
Year 6 students will learn about physical and chemical changes and observing these changes when mixing materials in the classroom. They will be investigating melting and dissolving and the factors that affect them.
